Bear Cavalry “Custom Hands”

…Bear Cavalry (@bearcavalryband)?  It’s Tuesday—c’mon get happy.  Bear Cavalry is Style Etoile’s new go-to pick me up band (previous title holders include Vampire Weekend and Temper Trap).  This South England quartet is brewing up a killer mix of jazz, tropicana, and funk, and we can’t help but smile (and maybe tap a foot or two) when we hear their infectious tracks.

ROSTAM “Wood”

…ROSTAM (@matsor)?  Oh man, this is good.  ROSTAM is the solo project of Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanhlij and if his first release “Wood” is any indication, we are in for a real treat with this one.  ROSTAM sounds like Eastern version of Vampire Weekend/Discovery and we find it fresh and uplifting.  No word on whether there are more where this came from, but we will certainly be the first to let you know…

Body Language “Tempoture”

…Body Language (@body_language)?  It’s always a good sign when Style Etoile loves all of a band’s songs so much we have a hard time deciding which to post.  Such is the case with Brooklyn quartet Body Language.  We have had our eyes on these guys for a while now and after hearing some tracks off of their upcoming nine song EP Social Studies (out October 18th), we knew we could no longer keep them to ourselves.  These guys are making disco-y, synth-y, get-your-groove-on tracks that remind us of an Animal Collective/Passion Pit/Vampire Weekend hybrid.  Style Etoile can’t wait to bust a move at their November 18th Bowery Ballroom with Keep Shelly in Athens—do yourselves a favor and join us…

why aren’t you listening to . . . Crystal Fighters

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Crystal Fighters (@crystalfighters)? Style Etoile had a hard time deciding which track to feature off of Crystal Fighters’ 2010 debut release Star of Love—the album is perfection from start to finish. This British/American/Spanish quintet makes tropical electronica—think CSS meets Vampire Weekend—and we love it. The blend of traditional Basque folk with ravetastic synth and beats sounds fresh and uplifting and we can’t wait to catch these guys live . . . things are gonna get funky.

why aren’t you listening to . . . Satellite Stories

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Satellite Stories (@SatelliteStory)? OK, so keeping up with this week’s upbeat, “hurray it’s hot out, let’s party!” theme, today Style Etoile brings you Satellite Stories. This Finnish band’s sound is Bloc Party meets Vampire Weekend—kind of like Two Door Cinema Club’s half sibling—and we can’t get enough of it. It is electrorock at it’s best—urgent guitar, thumping beats, nasal voice and all and we dare you to stand still while listening to it. Grab their Promo EP here.

. . . The Eclectic Moniker? It may be raining outside, but with The Eclectic Moniker playing on your headphones, it’s always sunny. When we hear these guys’ warm, tropical, reggae music, Style Etoile can almost taste the Pina Colada on our tongues. This Scandinavian group channels Vampire Weekend and Paul Simon to create a sound that never fails to make us smile. Check out their recent EP A Part of Something Bigger and don’t forget to wear your sunscreen . . .

why aren’t you listening to . . . Trophy Wife

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Trophy Wife (@trophywifeband)? Trophy Wife is a trio from Oxford with whom Style Etoile is more than a little obsessed. This is electro-indie at its best and each new track we hear seems to be better than the last. Trophy Wife’s music has been described as “Vampire Weekend playing New Order,” and not to be nitpicky, but we think it’s more like Belle and Sebastian playing New Order. Either way, it is shimmery, minimal, beautiful music and we think you’ll love it. Get their latest album An Innocent Orphan in a Post-Modern World here.
