why aren’t you listening to . . . 1,2,3

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . 1,2,3 (@123theband)? Style Etoile has been waiting for Pittsburg duo 1,2,3 to release a full-length since we had more than one of their 2010 singles on repeat for a better part of the year. It turns out New Heaven was worth the wait. 1,2,3 is back with their unique blend of rock, 70s soul, and slow-burn chill, and we think they sound better than ever. These guys remind us a little of The Sea and Cake and a little of The Strokes, but in reality their sound is too unique to try to label—so just take a listen and enjoy.

why aren’t you listening to . . . Saint Motel

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Saint Motel (@saintmotel)? Sometimes Style Etoile just wants to get into it with some good old-fashioned indie rock. And these days, when that mood strikes us, we scroll to Saint Motel in our music catalogue. This LA-based foursome makes explosive, upbeat, whiskey in one hand, cigarette in the other music. They have a Postelles meets The Strokes sound that always strikes the right note and their live shows are a serious get down. Head to their website for a free download of their new single “Puzzle Pieces.”

why aren’t you listening to . . . Last Dinosaurs

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Last Dinosaurs (@lastdinosaurs)? In sticking with yesterday’s beach theme, today Style Etoile brings you Last Dinosaurs. Of course these guys are from Australia—this is lade back, easy tropi-rock and it makes us smile. The quintet sound like a cross between The Strokes and Vampire Weekend and their 2010 release Back From The Dead is a pina colada for your ears.

. . . Butterflies on Strings

. . . Butterflies on Strings (@thebutterflies)? “Butterflies on Strings” is a pretty delicate name for such a rowdy group of UK rockers, but we dig it. BOS makes hopeful, hook-y, guitar pop that is straightforward and fun. The indie quartet has a sound that is part Death Cab for Cutie, part the Strokes, and Style Etoile is buyin’ what they’re sellin’. Check out their tracks here
