Summer Camp “Better Off Without You”

…Summer Camp (@summercampband)?  Summer Camp’s Welcome to Condale was one of 2011’s funnest albums, and we are happy to let you know that these guys sound even better live than they do on our headphones—we caught them at Mercury Lounge a few weeks ago and had a perma-grin for at least a week following the show.  The indie-pop group makes nostalgic yet current pop music that reminds us of a female lovechild of The Drums and The Postelles.  Happy days are here again…

Art Imperial “When I’m With You (I Feel Dumb)”

…Art Imperial? Style Etoile loves ourselves some surf rock, especially when the weather starts to turn cold and our summer days at the beach seem farther and farther away, so it is only natural that we have had Art Imperial’s Surf Suburban EP on loop for the past few days. Toronto-based Athur C. Imperial sounds like The Drums meets The Beach Boys with a possibly a little (yes, we will throw it out there) The Smiths thrown in. It is upbeat, urgent guitar mixed with nasal-y (in a good way) vocals and we love it.

why aren’t you listening to . . . Gardens & Villa

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Gardens & Villa (@gardensandvilla)? As much as Style Etoile loves music, there are only so many songs that not only draw us in from the very beginning, but also sound just as fresh the 100th time we have heard them as they do on the first listen. “Black Hills” is one of those songs. Garden & Villa’s debut self-titled album came out Tuesday and we can’t get enough of it. This California quartet’s sound is part The Drums, part Postal Service, part Yeasayer, and all awesome. Check it.
