why aren’t you listening to…

The Concept “Gimme Twice”

…The Concept (@thecncpt)?  Sometimes Mondays can be a drag.  Lucky for us, we have The Concept to put a smile on our faces.  The Swedish quartet is comprised of former Robyn, Tove Styrke, MRTN, and Veronica Maggio band members (holy pedigree).  The Concept sounds a lot like Phoenix, but Style Etoile loves Phoenix, so we don’t really see anything wrong with that.  This is dance-y, 80’s influenced, hookalicious stuff and we can’t help but get moving with them on our headphones.

why aren’t you listening to . . . Pompeya

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Pompeya (@PPOOMMPPEEYYAA)? As is witnessed by the consistently sunny music posts this week, Style Etoile is feeling pretty good these days. So in keeping with the trend, today we bring you Pompeya. It is a little surprising that Pompeya is from Moscow—a city not exactly known for its joyous disposition—but their music is as upbeat and optimistic as anything we’ve heard recently. This is synth-y, dance-y, tropicana done right—think Whitest Boy Alive meets Jimmy Buffet meets Phoenix. Their debut album Tropical is rad—check it.

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Jhameel (@Jhameel)? Um, hello Jhameel, you are awesome. Where do we begin? San Francisco-based Jhameel is making fun, fresh music that gets us moving. It is Prince meets Phoenix meets Bowie and man, is it good. His 2011 release The Human Condition is perfection from start to finish and his new Dance EP (download it for free here, but make sure to donate) does not disappoint. This guy is going places and you better believe we are along for the ride.
