why aren’t you listening to . . . Punches

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Punches (@PunchesBK)? How is it that Punches released their debut self-titled EP at the end of last year and we are just now hearing about them? Considering the fact that Style Etoile loves nothing more than a little sad dance music (80s new wave style), we are more than a little annoyed that no one has shared this Brooklyn crew with us. Because they are RIGHT up our alley—think Joy Division meets LCD Soundsystem—and our friends should know better. Anyhoo, we are thrilled to now have them in our music collection and we think you will be too—check out their 2010 EP Sleepless City and see if you don’t agree.

. . . Chain Gang of 1974 (@tcgo1974)? Style Etoile will never fully recover from LCD Soundsystem’s retirement, but Chain Gang of 1974 is certainly helping ease the pain. Chain Gang of 1974 is Denver-based Kamtim Mohager, and he is making synthed-up, psychedelic, experimental, post-punk dance awesomeness that is reminiscent of Style Etoile favorites New Order, LCD, and Foster the People, but is very much its own futuristic sound. They are one of the reasons we are officially on Lollapalooza count down, and we can’t get enough of their late June release Wayward Fire. Get it and get down.
