Blessed Feathers “By Song Through the Americas”

…Blessed Feathers (@blessedfeathers)?  Blessed Feathers seems so appropriate right now.  Their slightly bleak Americana folk rock is the perfect soundtrack for the crisp autumn days.  The above track “By Song Through the Americas” is the first single off of their recently released From the Mouths of Middle Class and it strikes a chord with us in a major way—it sounds like a cross between Simon and Garfunkel’s “America” and Grizzy Bear’s “Two Weeks”–and we love it.

Nurses “Trying To Reach You”

…Nurses?  Nurses is a psych-pop trio from Portland who make awesomely catchy (yet totally original and slightly off-kilter) tracks.  Their recently released Dracula has had some seriously heavy playtime in the Style Etoile world, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon.  Their sound is a mix between Grizzly Bear, MGMT, and The Cure and we are buyin’ what they’re sellin’.  Their Mercury Lounge show last weekend was one of the best we’ve seen in a while—so good we decided to catch them the next night at Glasslands.

CANT “Too Late Too Far”

…CANT (@CANTtweets)?  CANT is the solo project of Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, and yes, it is awesome.  CANT’s debut album Dreams Come True was released last month, and Style Etoile hasn’t been able to stop listening to it since.  It is a little more dance-y and 80s-influenced (we hear a lot of Prince) than Grizzly Bear, but with the same superb production and attention to detail.  The album features session work with Style Etoile favorite Twin Shadow and it is full of moody, layered magic that sounds fresh with each listen and we can’t wait to catch Chris at Bowery Ballroom on October 25th

Dan Mangan “Oh Fortune”

…Dan Mangan (@danmanganmusic)?  Tonight is gonna be a good night.  Because tonight Style Etoile gets to see our love Dan Mangan play Mercury Lounge.  Mangan’s recently released Oh Fortune is just.  so.  good.   Is it bluegrass?  Is it folk-rock?  Alt-country?  We aren’t sure, and we don’t care.  We just know that it is pretty genius and we can’t wait to hear this magic live.  The Canadian reminds us a lot of Mumford and Sons, with a Grizzy Bear twist.  Check him out.
