…Craft-y Clothes? We had been contemplating confiscating this vintage flannel number from the store for quite some time and when we came across this awesome jeweled button down DIY via Honestly…wtf, we knew what had to be done. After gathering all of our supplies and poking ourselves repeatedly with the needle we were ready to get craft-y! At first, we only wanted to jewel the placket, but then decided to bling out the cool cuffs as well. DIY Tip: don’t be afraid to take your creativity to the next level when working on a new project. We urge everyone to check out www.honestlywtf.com and get inspired this weekend…

….shopping your closet for costumes? Happy Monday! Halloween is just one week away while we want to get involved in a major way, we hate spending dough on meaningless costumes and always enjoy looking chic. So we partnered with one of our favorite DC bloggers Alina Gonzalez (from NBC’s The Feast and creator of the quirky fashion diary The Hyperbalist) to shop our own closets. On a beautiful fall day we raided the showroom and got super creative with a vast variety of colorful threads. Think of this little lesson as a DIY—ask yourself, what do I want to be for Halloween? How about a cute little kitty cat or a psychedelic flower child from the 60s? With a little imagination, the possibilities are endless—peep our selections for a little inspiration and get crafty in your closet on this fine fall day…psst: score $300 bones in this I DIE FOR DIY costume contest via Chictopia. Sweet!

…Lovely Leopard? This season we are feeling on-trend with our rad plaid, modern maxis, and lepo print nails, and we think it is only appropriate that we share our style secrets with all of you style stars. Trends can be hard to follow and you do not want to over do it—a true style star knows how to incorporate the right amount of current accent pieces into her wardrobe (hint: leopard is cool, but in small doses). So, grab your notepad, berrys, and ipads and let’s DIY our nails with a little ol’ leopard.
1. Supplies: you will need printed nail strips of your choice—these strips are actually made of real polish and super easy to apply. We recommend using Salon Effects by Sally Hansen.
2. Polish: Select a color combo that works well with your printed nail strips. We applied Black Satin by Chanel but also recommend Black Onyx by OPI or Graphite by Chanel for a Halloween-y look…
3. Prep: Apply Nailtiques (formula 1) nail treatment.
4. Color Option: After you have selected your color combo paint all of your nails and apply a topcoat of your choice.
5. Feline Chic Fingies:
- Let nails dry.
- Peel off the white paper and carefully place the strip over your nail polish…we recommend one nail per hand—the leopard could be too much if used excessively.
- Peel off the clear cover and file your nail to the length of your liking.
6. Seal the Deal: Apply a clear coat of your choice and enjoy your feline chic nails!
Ta-Dah. In just minutes you have transformed your fingies from drab to fab!! We hope you enjoyed this edition of DIY fun with team Style Etoile.
why aren’t you wearing . . . The Spring Sparkle Splatter
why aren’t you wearing . . .
. . . The Spring Sparkle Splatter? As some of you may know, Style Etoile is pretty obsessed with sparkle (we have always claimed glitter runs through our veins) so when we first heard about OPI’s Shatter Polish, we couldn’t wait to test it out. The outcome was truly magnificent and a huge hit at Coachella . . . when in doubt, splatter your sparkles out!
For a unique twist, Style Etoile likes to add a little gold leaf to the mix. Here are our DIY instructions for getting the look:
1) Apply Nailtiques (formula 1) nail treatment.
2) Apply your choice of color—we recommend neons and pastels for a dramatic effect.
3) Apply Rococo Gold Leaf Lacquer—this keeps your polish on longer and adds a little kick to the look.
4) Let nails dry.
5) Apply OPI Shatter polish
6) Finish with a shiny top coat.
And TAH-DAH: you have the Spring Sparkle Splatter! From our fingies to yours . . . enjoy!
