why aren’t you listening to…

Hello Echo “The Coming Days”

…Hello Echo (@helloechoband)?  Hello Echo reminds us of a punker Band of Horses.  The Santa Monica-based trio can come together and make some beautiful harmonies, but they can also rock out and get rowdy on their individual instruments.  Hello Echo’s self-released Hello is a great album from start to finish.  Don’t let the fact that these guys sound like they are having a lot of fun fool you—we are dealing with three very talented musicians here and we can’t wait to see what they come out with next.

why aren’t you listening to . . . Blake Mills

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Blake Mills (@breakmirrors)? Style Etoile are not ones to take issue with super-talented hotties calling us “lover” so whenever we hear “Hey Lover” off of Blake Mills’ 2010 release Break Mirrors, we can’t help but bat our eyelashes a little while making a coy “who, me?” face. Blake Mills’ pedigree includes playing with Dawes, Jenny Lewis, Band of Horses, and Julian Casablancas, so we knew he was doing something right even before we heard his solo stuff. Little did we know he was doing everything right. Blake Mills makes catchy, personal, blues-y, sweet rock ‘n’ roll and we heart it.

why aren’t you listening to . . . Paul Thomas Saunders

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Paul Thomas Saunders (@PTSofficial)? Sometimes Style Etoile hears a song that makes us feel like we have just taken a dip in the most refreshing pool imaginable—we feel cool, awake, peaceful, and aware. ALL of Paul Thomas Saunders’ songs make us feel that way. The 20 year old Brit makes music that sounds like Band of Horses meets Bon Iver meets Radiohead circa The Bends—high pitched, intimate, soaring vocals paired with layered instrumentation that sounds different with each listen. His Lilac and Wisteria EP comes out July 4th and we can. not. wait.

why aren’t you listening to . . . Georgia Fair

why aren’t you listening to . . .

. . . Georgia Fair (@GeorgiaFair)? Style Etoile thinks it couldn’t be more appropriate that Georgia Fair recorded their most recent album in North Carolina with Bill Reynolds from Band of Horses. Because although this duo hails from the land down under, they are making Americana acoustic folk-rock that reminds us of BOH in a major way. Aussies know how to do laid-back right, and Georgia Fair is no exception. This is easy bluegrass done to perfection and we can’t wait to hear what these boys come up with next . . . download their tracks—including their recent collaboration with Boy & Bear—here.
